Late-night hosts spoke about how the losing party is dealing with the midterms, which saw a round of wins for the Democrats

Late-night hosts ridiculed the many Republicans who are now trying to distance themselves from Donald Trump after the Democrats scored a midterms victory this week.

Seth Meyers

On Late Night, Seth Meyers said that Republicans were “furiously backpedalling away from Trump” after the result which has been referred to as a blue tsunami for the Democrats.

He said it’s been “a long 10 years since Trump was first elected” and in that time he has gone from “crusading outsider” to “depressed old man”.

He played footage of him miserably talking about renovations this week looking “like a substitute teacher with a hangover”.

Meyers reminded viewers that the Republicans claimed to be appealing to and working for the “forgotten working class” yet “the only workers who have actually benefited from Trump’s second terms are the ones who do rush jobs on reflecting pool renovations”.

He said that after claiming politics would be changed forever and for the better, “now they’re singing a very different tune” with many calling it the death of Maga.

One major figure now trying to backtrack is JD Vance who wrote a long post this week about how the war was the reason for the loss and that the right need to be better at analysing the mistakes that have been made.

“No one’s fucking buying it,” Meyers said in response, saying that his “whole thing is lying”.

When Trump was asked about Vance running, his low-energy response suggested that he thought no one might bother running in 2028. “What do you mean nobody is gonna run?” Meyers asked, wondering if he had gone “full nihilist”.

He joked that Trump “can’t even pretend to be upset” before moving on to the stuffy response from senior Democrats like Chuck Schumer. “You guys are killing the vibe!” he said, suggesting that they should “just let the young people talk” instead.

Jimmy Kimmel

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host called it the “biggest midterm sweep in more than 50 years” and that Trump’s response is to rant and rave “about the least important things imaginable”.

This week saw the president complain about daylight savings time once again on social media with Kimmel joking that he is “arguing with the sun”.

He has also been going on about his 250ft $100m arch which Kimmel said drew “inspiration from his own neck vagina”.

Trump has also tried to make his iteration of the Oval Office a landmark that must remain untouched despite Kimmel saying that is resembled the “gift shop at the Liberace museum”.

He also wondered if “he’s planning to leave sooner than we think” while adding that in 2029 we will gladly “yank that crap down and throw it out”.

Kimmel also poked fun at Newsmax, which he referred to as a “cut-rate Fox with a dash of Grandpa Simpson thrown in” as hosts spiralled over the result.

“Trump made a lot of promises he couldn’t keep and they finally caught up to him,” he added.
